The perfect sales funnel is an adventure.

It motivates people to overcome their mental barriers, persuades them to take action, and guides them toward a healthier, wealthier, or happier existence.

But exactly how do you create an effective sales funnel?

This is the question I had been asking myself and experimenting with for several months. There is a ton of information online about sales funnels but …

And then, the strangest thing happened.

I opened my mailbox one day and inside was a FREE copy of DotCom Secrets by Russell Brunson.

I had heard of Mr. Brunson before but I didn’t know anything about his methods of how to use ClickFunnels.

As I read the book I found myself nodding my head and thinking “yes, that’s exactly right!” Everything he teaches feels very intuitive.

I’d like to share an overview of his funnel making methods by offering you these 8 steps to creating profitable funnels.

If you’re merely trying to update and optimize an existing funnel, these recommendations will come in handy… or if you’re beginning from the ground up.

  1. Begin with the question, “Who?”

Who is your target audience?

Creating a clear customer avatar for the people you serve will help you create a successful sales funnel.

It’s far more important, even than becoming obsessed with your product.

You may already know what product or service you want to sell but “Who is your dream customer?” is a far more crucial question to ask.

In his best-selling book Traffic Secrets, Russell Brunson writes:

“The first step in this process is to become obsessed with your dream customer. Companies that become obsessed with their products will eventually fail.

As we’ve grown and learned how to use ClickFunnels, I’ve seen this happen time and time again. Every company we competed against — even though some of them had hundreds of millions of dollars in funding behind them eventually lost to use because they were busy focusing on their products while we became obsessed with our customers.

What do I mean when I say obsessed? Being obsessed with your customer means understanding them just as well, if not better, than they understand themselves.”

 

So… do you have a clear idea of who your ideal consumers are?

If not, how can you get a better idea as to who you are trying to reach?

Start by answering these questions:

        • What is your dream clients biggest fear?
        • What is their biggest desire?
        • What do they love more than anything?
        • How much money do they make?
        • What problems do they need help in solving?

You can use this worksheet to create your ideal customer. Once you complete this worksheet hang it on your office wall as a constant reminder as to who you are trying to reach.

Having a clear idea as to who your dream customer is will give you a leg up in creating a successful funnel that converts prospects into buyers.

  1. How and where do I find my dream client?

Now that you have a good idea of who your target market you’re probably asking …

Where do I find them?

The internet’s greatest benefit is that it has spawned an almost limitless number of niche hangout spots.

Your target market probably already hangs out on:

        • Subreddits
        • YouTube Channels
        • Email Newsletters
        • Facebook Groups
        • Podcasts
        • Instagram
        • Twitter

Now that you know WHO your dream client is and WHERE they hang can you get results by merely targeting them and hoping for the best?

Probably not!

So how do I do now?

Russell introduces the concept of The Dream 100. The dream 100 is the top 100 online locations where you want to reach your ideal clients — podcasts, blogs, newsletters, Facebook groups, YouTube channels, individual influencers, forums, subreddits, and pretty much anything else.

Make a list of online locations where your ideal customers congregate, which is why knowing who your ideal customers are is critical. We try to visit 100 different locations but if that sounds like a lot then start with 20 or 30 and build from there.

You are looking for:

        • 10 top websites and forums where they spend time.
        • 15 active Facebook groups they participate in.
        • 50 influencers they follow on Facebook and Instagram.
        • 30 podcasts they listen to.
        • 40 email newsletters they subscribe to
        • 20 blogs that they actively read.
        • 20 YouTube channels they subscribe to.

Start making a list!

This list is where your dream 100 hangout. Now that you know where they are it’s time to learn how to bring them into your sales funnels.

  1. Bait Your Hook

You know who your target market is and where to find them at this point.

If you’re anything like me, the next logical step is to get all giddy and make them your most valuable high-ticket offer!

Right?

Ummmm …. No.

Always keep in mind that the sales funnel is an adventure. And any good adventure takes time.

These individuals have no idea who you are. They’re not sure they can trust you and chances are good that they are skeptical.

The first step, then, is to earn their trust.

But how exactly do I earn their trust?

By providing them with something truly interesting and beneficial… for nothing.

This is known as “bait.” The bait is what you will use to get your target audience to join your email list so that you can keep marketing to them for free. Having their email address will allow you to begin to build a relationship with them.

Free trials, eBooks, video courses, newsletters, and consultations are all examples of bait.

Using a free offer is a useful and risk-free way for your audience to get to know you.

This might seem difficult but don’t overthink it.

When creating your initial offer ask yourself what burning desire does my target audience have and then try to solve it.

This could be in a number of different formats including:

        • A free Ebook
        • A free Masterclass
        • A free White Paper
        • A free Cheat Sheet
        • … or something else. Don’t be afraid to be creative!

Do keep in mind that, while this item will be valuable to your target market, it is still free — so don’t spend months creating it.

Your bait should ideally be something you can whip up in a matter of days.

Now you have two options for infiltrating your Dream 100 communities:

Work Your Way In — This usually entails cold contacting, texting, emailing, and even direct mailing your influencers in order to establish a relationship and entice them into collaborating. You could, for example, provide influencers a free edition of your product in exchange for an honest evaluation.

Buy Your Way In — to cut some of the red-tape, you might just pay influencers to get in front of their audience. This may involve placing a banner ad on their website, placing your YouTube advertisements at the start of their videos, or contacting them to inquire about other paid promotional opportunities.

  1. Tell Your Story

Let’s put ourselves in the shoes of your ideal consumer for a second.

They were scrolling through their favorite Facebook Group, Instagram influencer, or YouTube Channel one day and they came across a resource that your offer the appealed to them and …..

it was completely free!

As a result, they gave you their email address, downloaded the resource, and began using it. This is great but ….

Now what?

Given that you’ve only had one encounter with these individuals, they probably don’t really trust you yet.

But they still have no idea who you are, where you came from, or why they should listen to you.

To introduce yourself and gain trust you can tell your story.

Using a sequence of 5 to 7 emails you can provide them with more free content while introducing yourself and, eventually, encourage them to buy your products.

  1. Keep In Touch

The great thing about your Soap Opera Sequence is that it is now an automated method for converting individuals into paying clients.

After sending the soap opera sequence it is critical that you stay in touch with everyone on your email list, whether they’re paying clients or just inquisitive passers-by.

How?

You can keep in touch with your list using another of Russell’s processes called Seinfeld Emails.

The concept behind Seinfeld Email is to send an email once a day – yes, once a day – about anything you want, but always make sure you’re directing people to something useful.

Again, these can be about almost anything and should always lead to something worthwhile. Every day, they should take you no more than 10-20 minutes to make.

These emails can be long, short, lighthearted, serious, or anything else you wish. The goal of these emails is to keep your audience interested and to continually direct them to both free and paid products.

  1. Emotion, Logic, Fear

So far, we’ve discussed identifying and locating your target market, driving traffic, casting your bait, and delivering relevant and compelling emails.

However, we haven’t gotten too specific about the sales funnel yet.

That is, how do you get individuals to convert once they land on your landing page?

How do you persuade them to act?

To begin, we’ll discuss the significance of incorporating emotion, logic, and fear (in that order) into your sales pages.

There are basically 3 types of buyers:

        1. Emotional – people who make purchasing decisions based on their emotional response to a marketing campaign or a product are known as emotional buyers. More than half of your buyers will make emotional decisions.
        2. Logic– people who make decisions based on their thinking and comparisons. They might compare numerous similar products to see which one best fits their requirements. This represents 30% of the market.
        3. Fear– those who purchase due to a sense of haste or scarcity. This accounts for 20% of the buying market.

Keep these three types of buyers in mind when drafting the copy for your funnel.

  1. The Big Domino

Many marketers believe that you must address all of a potential buyers concerns in order to get them to buy your product.

But is this really true?

Russell Brunson has proven that this is not the case. In his book DotCom Secrets, he explains the Big Domino theory. Simply put, what is the one thing that you can convince your buyer of that will then knock out all of their objections?

What if all you needed to persuade consumers to buy was ONE THING – ONE BELIEF – in your target market…

Here’s everything you need to know…

If I can make them believe that [MY NEW OPPORTUNITY] is the key to [WHAT THEY DESIRE MOST] and is only attainable through [MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE] then all other objections and concerns become irrelevant and they have to give me money.

Fill in the blanks for your own offer and business.

  1. Funnel Hacking

Since each funnel is unique, there is a lot of variation depending on your niche, industry, target audience, product, story and messaging.

How can I be sure my funnels will work?

The process of systematically studying your competitors’ sales and marketing processes and then leveraging that framework to design, test, and optimize your own is known as funnel hacking.

This step is crucial because you’ll discover precise tips and methods for building a sales funnel that fits your specialty, offer, and target market.

Look at your competitors’ funnels, walk through the process, and think about what would work effectively for your own.

Keep in mind that this is NOT COPYING YOUR COMPETITORS FUNNEL. You will replicate what is working for them using your own unique content and products.

In Closing

There are a ton of funnels online and unfortunately, many of them are terrible and do not yield results. A successful sales funnel differs significantly from an unsuccessful one.

From casting your bait and sharing your tale to toppling the big domino and funnel hacking, you now know how to create an experience that will lead your dream customers to work with you.
